Where faith and evidence-based counseling are rooted in grace, truth, and hope.

For many individuals, faith is more than a personal belief—it is a meaningful source of hope, purpose, resilience, and connection. A growing body of research suggests that, for people who identify as religious or spiritual, faith and spiritual practices are often associated with greater emotional well-being, increased resilience during adversity, stronger social support, and a deeper sense of meaning and purpose. While faith does not eliminate suffering or guarantee freedom from life's challenges, it can become an important source of strength throughout the healing journey.

At Selah, we believe emotional, relational, and spiritual health are deeply interconnected. Healing often involves caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

As a faith-based counseling practice, our relationship with Jesus Christ serves as the foundation from which we care for others. It shapes not only what we believe, but how we strive to extend compassion, humility, grace, and truth while recognizing that every person is created in the image of God with inherent dignity, worth, and purpose. We believe we were created for relationship—with God, with others, and with ourselves—and that these relationships profoundly influence our emotional, relational, and spiritual well-being.

Every person's spiritual journey is unique. Some individuals seek Christian counseling because they desire a therapist who shares their faith and can thoughtfully integrate biblical principles into the counseling process. Others come carrying questions, painful church experiences, or a faith that has been challenged by life's circumstances. Wherever you find yourself, you'll be met with compassion, respect, and genuine curiosity—not pressure, shame, or judgment.

For some, the deepest wounds are spiritual. Experiences of legalism, shame, spiritual manipulation, religious abuse, or painful church experiences can leave lasting effects on emotional and spiritual well-being. If that's part of your story, we want you to know there is space for it here. Healing doesn't require pretending those experiences didn't happen. Your story deserves to be heard with compassion, grace, and care.

For clients who desire it, therapy may include prayer, Scripture, spiritual reflection, and exploring how God's truth intersects with life's challenges. Faith integration is always collaborative and guided by your preferences—we'll determine together how, and if, it becomes part of your counseling experience.

Ultimately, our hope is not simply to help you feel better. It's to walk alongside you as you pursue healing, deeper self-understanding, healthier relationships, and, when desired, a deeper relationship with Christ. We believe healing and faith can coexist beautifully, and that God's grace meets us in every season of life.

We may also explore how your faith shapes your understanding of identity, relationships, forgiveness, suffering, purpose, and hope. Some clients choose to incorporate faith into every session, while others only occasionally. Together, we'll determine what feels most meaningful and supportive for your healing journey.

Research suggests that, for many individuals who identify as religious or spiritual, faith is associated with greater resilience, hope, meaning, emotional well-being, and social connection. Faith can provide a framework for navigating adversity, coping with stress, and finding purpose during difficult seasons of life.

At the same time, we recognize that faith does not eliminate emotional struggles or guarantee freedom from anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma. Rather, for many people, it serves as an important source of strength that can be thoughtfully integrated alongside evidence-based counseling.

We recognize that spiritual wounds are real. Experiences of shame, manipulation, legalism, spiritual abuse, or painful relationships within faith communities can deeply affect both emotional and spiritual well-being.

Therapy offers a place to process those experiences honestly and compassionately without minimizing your pain or rushing toward quick answers. Whether you're rebuilding trust, wrestling with difficult questions, or simply trying to make sense of your experiences, you are welcome here.

Questions, doubt, grief, disappointment, unanswered prayers, and seasons of spiritual dryness are part of many people's faith journeys. Counseling can provide a safe place to honestly explore those experiences while receiving compassionate support along the way.
